Colours provide far more than just decoration. They affect emotions and feelings and have a direct effect on how messages and information are identified and magnified. We express our desires and interests with colours just as we use language. Why not using this effect for your home styling and to influence your life and well-being in the best possible way?
Applying colours to style your home is more of an art than simply choosing a particular shade and being done with it. The question is, do we want an energetic feeling, a feeling of ease, or do we want something in between. The only way to answer this question is to interrogate our subjective tastes, desires, and motivations.
As with everything in life, we need to get the balance right.
Bright but soft colours help lighten up a person’s perspective with a sense of energy, whereas cool colours are well known and used intentionally for their calming effect. The two families of colours make up opposing halves of the colour circle or palette, and they always have a family of shades for each primary colour involved in either family.
Warm and cool colours intensify each other’s qualities of motion and emotion. Careful use of cool colours will strengthen the effect of your warm colours. Also, adding cool colours to a warm design will help to prevent the warm colours from being overwhelming or oppressive.
At Life & Style Agency, we trust in colour concepts which you may adapt based on your mood. Being situated in the centre of Europe, we’re facing various natural light conditions over the year. We believe it is an essential factor for your well-being and happy home feeling to adapt the colour schemes of your home frequently, based on your emotional state.
When we’re styling homes for our clients, we usually go for a monochromatic effect. The base colour is always the foundation that sets the tone for the rest of the colour application. This can be different versions of a colour, but in most cases, it is the lightest version. Then, different shades of the same colour are applied for framing or contrast. So, for example, a room might have a very light shade of beige with darker shades for the door and window frames. Alternative base colours can include shades of white as well as greys.
The advantage of a soft colour base is that it tends to give a neutral effect to the room, allowing us to then place decoration items that pop and stand out. It also allows you to modify those items from time to time, based on the current mood.
